Training is on Monday & Wednesday nights at 6.50pm from Kirkstall Leisure Centre. Please see the How To Join page for information. You don't need to be a member to come and join in with our training sessions. Please check the training and events schedule here to see if there are any alterations to this weeks normal training. The club is B.A.F affiliated for road, cross country and fell running.
This years presentation evening will be a more informal affair taking place on Thursday February 10th. We have booked a table at the West End for 7pm where we will have a meal followed by the presentation of the club championship awards and the sportsman and woman 2010. Places are limited so please email stoxy78@hotmail.com as soon as possible to book a place!
Also, don’t forget you only have until 31st January to send us your nominations for sportsman and woman 2010… This is your club and your vote counts! Send these to Jill Stocks at stoxy78@hotmail.com.
Its that time of year again when we ask YOU to help us decide who should be awarded the most coveted of running related prizes the Kirkstall Harriers Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year 2010 You can nominate anyone from the club to receive this prestigious award, be it for most improved runner of the year, an outstanding PB, a brilliant result in a race. Or maybe you would like to reward someone for their commitment to the club. The reasons are endless and the choice is yours. Please click here to download a voting form to complete, or email your nomination(s) to us at kirkstallharriers@googlemail.com Please remember all the votes need to be in by the 31st of January and winners will be announced in February. Weds 1st Dec, 2.45pm Here at Kirkstall Harriers we pride ourselves in never “closing” due to the weather, and the message from our most hardened harrier, Chairman Peter Hey, is that he will do his best to get down to Kirkstall Leisure Centre for training at the usual time tonight in case anyone would like to go for a run! However, this may well be a one-off where training does not take place if Peter is unable to get there, and word from the Leisure Centre is that they are not sure at this point whether they will stay open this evening either. Training to resume as “normal” we hope from Monday. We do always run in lighter snow, although it is more often than not an off-road route to avoid the icy pavements… Be safe out there everyone, no running heroics now! Apologies for the delay in posting up the results following Guy Fawkes 10, these are now up on the League Table page under Club Championship. Congratulations to Chris Glover for scooping top points! The final race of the Club Championship is Harriers V Cyclists this Saturday, 20th November, 2pm from the Fisherman Inn, Dowley Gap, Bingley. Entry is £5 on the day and it should be a fun race, a new one for a lot of us… There will be a reminder in the December newsletter but please let us know if: 1) You have run a marathon this year which you think we might not know about, if you are unsure then drop us a line to make sure you have claimed your ‘marathon bonus points’ 2) You have run any of the parkrun 5ks at Hyde Park in 2010. You’ll need to confirm what your 5k pb was as at 1st Jan 2010 (if you had one) and what your fastest time during the year was (even if not a pb), and the date you ran it too preferrably so we can verify this, thanks. Marathons and 5k times effectively count as 1 race each, and it’s still your best 6 points scores that count. Confused? So are we. But it works, trust us. Eleanor The Christmas Do at the West End House is now full. But if you would like to be on the reserve list I may be able to squeeze a couple more in! If you have booked a place please get your deposit and menu choices to me as soon as possible. Entries are now open for Snake Lane 10 in February. The race always sells out quickly so enter soon. Entry form here: Also entries will soon be open for the Knavesmire Harriers Brass Monkey Half Marathon in January. The 2011 race will be online entry only so keep an eye on the Knavesmire Harriers website for details as to when entries will open. Entries are also open for the Liversedge Half Marathon, the first Club Championship race of 2011, which also sells out very quickly. Entry form here: Entries are also open for the Edinburgh Marathon and Half Marathon in May 2011. This race is always popular with club members and we are hoping to once again arrange a club trip up to bonny Scotland. More details soon.
