OMMISSION FROM JUNE NEWSLETTER - PRIZE WINNERS

Just to let everyone now that our new over 60 runner John Hutchinson picked up 3rd over 60 prize at the Leeds half marathon. And I still can't catch the bugger and he has over 6 years on me. Maybe I can run that much faster when I get to 60!
It is also rumoured that Sheila KIng was first in her age group at the Harewood 10k - but we will not mention her age

YORKS VETS
Well done to Mario, our only representative at the Walton race who managed to pick up 140 points. We managed 4 runners at the Pudsey event and managed to pick up nearly 600 points - but at the time of writing waiting official confirmation of the team position after 5 races.
Next races are Wednesday July 11th 7.45, a nice run at Birstall around Oakworth Hall. Then on Wednesday 1st August 7.30 at the York race course - which should be pretty flat course hopefully, if you like that thing. Details at yvaa.org, or from Peter Hey

NEW MEMBERS
Our flock is increasing nicely. JONATHAN MITCHELL from Whitehall Road near town
ELEANOR FRANKS from Hyde Park area who this year did the London Marathon, Leeds half, and then got a 3.56 at the Edinburgh marathon seems a useful addition for future races ?
JOAN FARMER has eventually joined us and comes from the Farsley area, as does CATHERINE HARWOOD. Last but not least, is GARY CARLISLE from Horsforth who can only make the Monday nights so we best not make them too easier runs.

MEMBERS MEANDER
This is scheduled for July 18th, 7.00pm everyone welcome, and a bit of grub afterwards at the LPSA, just to round off the evening. If you arrive late you will catch us at the start as you go onto the canal by at the bottom of Broad Lane.

OTHER TEAM EVENTS
July is a busy month for team relays.
DANEFIELD RELAY, Wed 4th JULY at the Danefield car park on Otley Chevin. 3 per team each runner running the same 3 mile route, with a slightly hilly finish. I think it starts at 7.00, so please arrive by 6.30 so we can sort out the teams., Entries on the night only.
WASHBURN VALLEY RELAY Friday 20 July, from the car park at Fewston reservoir. 7.00pm start so get there for 6.30 if possible. 4 per team each running a different route of about 4 miles around Fewston and Lindley reservoir. Recci runs around the route are being held by Otley runners on Thursday 12th July again start time 7.00pm
GOLDEN ACRE PARK RELAY Wed 25th July from Golden Acre Park at 7.00pm. Teams of 3, each running the same route of 2.75 miles.

You can just turn up on the night for these events - please arrive early though, and make up the necessary teams, but it would help if you could contact Martin, Collette, Richard or Peter Hey in advance so we have some idea on numbers - and costs.

LEEDS COUNTRY WAY
This is the major, club event of the year, on Sun 2nd September. A 6 leg relay, each leg to have a pair of runners of similar ability, starting and finishing together. The legs are between 9 and 11 miles each, around the Leeds Boundary, starting and finishing at Garforth, mainly off road on paths and tracks, with free pie and peas at the finish, along with a well deserved pint or two. Hopefully we can get a mens and ladies team, and if demand is there another third team. We do need to get an idea of teams ASAP though, in order to organise recci's of each leg, as the routes are not marshalled or marked, except with the LCW signs. which are hard to spot when running. Please pass your names to Martin Collette Richard or Peter Hey if interested and if you have any preference for legs or times when available. The race does start at 8.00, with the last leg about 2 - 3.00 pm from Scarcroft.

P.B.
Again Patrick is showing good times for all the hard effort/long miles he his putting in lately. Another pb on the hilly Otley 10 of 1.28.23, joining him on the same night was Mario whose time was just over the hour (someone told me the time but I've forgot it - it might have been 1.10ish)and Collette with 1.29.
Helen Goldthorpe got a pb at the Edinburgh marathon of 3.52.11.
Patrick was at it again at the Humber Bridge half, with another pb of 1.55.48 (-11 seconds but they all count). At the same race Liz Covey-Crump, after completing a 21/2 hrs ish on the off road, very warm, Rugger Ramble 1/2 marathon(12 miles) a few weeks earlier did 1.54 on her first road half marathon, and is now looking for more races. Maybe some of the praise should go to our other club member Miles who may have been pulling and pushing her around, and did similar times at both races. Finally from the same race, our newest member Gary did 1.40ish on only his 2nd half marathon race, the Leeds being the first.
If you have any pb's you would like mentioning please pass the word around for the next newsletter.
