Give Us A Try Before Joining!
The easy way to find out if you’d like to become a member of Kirkstall Harriers is to come down to the club on one of our training nights and run with us! You don’t need to be a member to come and give us a try for a couple of training sessions to see if the club is for you. But it is necessary to become a member if you wish to continue to train with us or compete in various races/events held throughout the year as a Kirkstall Harrier.
Training is on Monday & Wednesday nights at 6.50pm from Kirkstall Leisure Centre and all standards of runners are welcome to join us. Please check the events and training schedule to see if there are any alterations to this weeks normal training.
We cater for all levels of runners. But do ask that you can run at least 3 miles at about 12 min/mile pace before coming to the training sessions. If you have any questions, please email us. We also have members who run beginner sessions. Again please email us if you would like more details. Our email address is firstname.lastname@example.org

Training with a club is far more motivational than going out alone, especially on those cold winter evenings. When you run in an event as a club member you have your fellow Harriers to share transport with, meet and chat with before the race and share your experiences with afterwards. It makes running a much more enjoyable sport and adds a social element. As a UKA registered runner, your running performances will be collated automatically by UKA and Runbritain for you to view online and monitor your progress as your times improve.
As a club, we are very active in many competitions throughout the year. We compete in the following leagues and inter-club events:
PECO Winter Cross Country League (5 events)
Yorkshire Vets Leagure (8 to 10 events)
West Yorkshire Cross Country Championships
National Cross Country Championships
Calderdale Way Relay Race
Bradford Millennium Way Relay Race
Leeds Country Way Relay Race
Summer Evening Cross Country Relays (3 events)
Each year in September we host our own club event, the Kirkstall Abbey 7. We also host PECO cross country races and Yorkshire Vets races bi-annually.
Our club championship, which is an internal club league running throughout the year is very popular with members as it is handicapped (based on runbritainrankings.com) to give equal opportunity to members of all abilities. This year we have 16 races in the championship calendar running from February to November.
We also keep track of our members perfomances and provide up to date leader-boards for recent Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and Mile distance PBs.
We are not just a running club but a social club as well. We are active in road, cross country and fell running. The club is B.A.F affiliated for road, cross country and fell running.
The club has a very active facebook group which is proving popular with many members for organising training, events, social gatherings and general running related chat.
To run in events as a Kirkstall Harrier, you will need a club running vest. We try to encourage new members to buy a vest when they join, so as new member you can choose to buy a high quality club vest with your membership at a large discount. The vest will cost you only £10 (33% off the normal price). Club runners must wear club colours in all races as they are otherwise un-insured as well as ineligible for any prizes.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are already a member of a running club you must resign in writing from that club before joining another club as a full member. This does not apply to those wishing to join as second claim members.
