Handicap calculation:
Your individual handicap is calculated from the fastest member’s time for each distance, for example:
Bert is the fastest member over 10k with a PB of 34mins
Ernie’s 10k PB is 61mins
Ernie’s Handicap will be the difference between the two times, which is 27mins.
(Each member will have a different handicap for each distance based on the same calculation)
If you have not done so yet, please send us your recent (last 2-5 years as a guide) PBs for 5k, 10k, 10 mile and half marathon, or as many of them as you have, to kirkstallharriers@googlemail.com
Handicap application:
Your adjusted, or ‘championship’ time is your actual race time minus your handicap, for example:
Bert runs a 10k in 35mins. Ernie runs the same race in 59mins. After the handicap is applied to Ernie’s race time, his ‘Championship Time’ will be 32mins (59 minus 27). Therefore Ernie’s time of 32mins beats Bert’s time of 35mins by 3mins.
Scoring:
Points are award to the all who enter a Championship race. 1st place receives 20 points, 2nd place 19 points, 3rd place 18 points and so on. 19th place onwards will all receive 2 points each.
Handicap Revision:
After each race any member with a new PB time will have their Handicap revised. Everyone else remains on the same handicap for the next race. For example; Ernie’s new Handicap for the next 10k race will be calculated like this: Bert remains fastest with his PB of 34mins and therefore is handicap of 0 does not change. Ernie’s time of 59mins gives him a new handicap of 25mins (59 minus 34).

The Championship will be held over the 10 races detailed on the ‘Races’ page, and there is also a chance to win points from the free 5k parkrun events (any will count) and from any marathon you run during the year (see ‘Races’ page for all details).5k points and marathon bonus points will be added at the end of the year.
