The easy way to find out if you’d like to become a member of Kirkstall Harriers is to come down to the club on one of our training nights and run with us! You don’t need to be a member to come and give us a try for a couple of training sessions to see if the club is for you. But it is necessary to become a member if you wish to continue to train with us or compete in various races/events held throughout the year as a Kirkstall Harrier.
Training is on Monday & Wednesday nights at 6.50pm from Kirkstall Leisure Centre from the bottom of the steps outside. Please check the training schedule to see if there are any alterations to this weeks normal training.
We cater for a wide range of running ability, but for practical reasons we do ask that you can run at least 4-5 miles at about 12 min/mile pace before coming to the training sessions. If you have any questions, please email us. Our email address is kirkstallharriers@gmail.com
The club does not have a junior section therefore training sessions are for senior runners only (over 17 years of age).
Due to the training routes we use and for safety of runners, we do not allow dogs on our training runs.
Become a Member
Membership has a number of advantages and a year’s membership is less than a month’s membership at most gyms! The fee includes registration with England Athletics (currently £18) and as a UKA affiliated club member you will benefit from:
- Reduced entry fees for UKA licensed road and multi-terrain events (minimum £2 per event)
- Insurance for ‘athletics activities’
- Personal profile page on Power of 10
- Personal profile page on Runbritainrankings.com showing your UK ranking and runbritain handicap rating
- To see the full list of benefits of being a club member and being registered with England Athletics click here
Club members also get access to a sportshoes.com 10% discount code each month which gives you free delivery worth £5 as well as the discount off all items on their website.
Training with a club is far more motivational than going out alone, especially on those cold winter evenings. When you run in an event as a club member you have your fellow Harriers to share transport with, meet and chat with before the race and share your experiences with afterwards. It makes running a much more enjoyable sport and adds a social element. As a UKA registered runner, your running performances will be collated automatically by UKA and Runbritain for you to view online and monitor your progress as your times improve.
As a club, we are very active in many competitions throughout the year. We compete in the following leagues and inter-club events:
PECO Winter Cross Country League (5 events)
Yorkshire Vets League (8 to 10 events)
Calderdale Way Relay Race
Bradford Millennium Way Relay Race
Leeds Country Way Relay Race
Summer Evening Cross Country Relays (3 events)
In many of the above events, the club pays for the entry fee.
Each year in September/October we host our own club event, the Kirkstall Abbey 7. We also host a Yorkshire Veterans Association championship race each year in May.
Our club championship, which is an internal club league running throughout the year are very popular with members as are handicapped (based on runbritainrankings.com) to give equal opportunity to members of all abilities.
We also keep track of our members perfomances and provide up to date leader-boards for recent Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and Mile distance PBs.
We are not just a running club but a social club as well. We are active in road, cross country and fell running. The club is B.A.F affiliated for road, cross country and fell running.
The club has a very active facebook group which is proving popular with many members for organising training, events, social gatherings and general running related chat.
Membership Prices
To run in events as a Kirkstall Harrier, you will need a club running vest. The vest will only cost you only £10 as a new member to the club. Club runners must wear club colours in all races as they are otherwise un-insured as well as ineligible for any prizes.
