Apologies, it’s been a while since I posted. I hope you understand I do have a tiny (getting bigger every day) excuse. Since we last spoke we’ve had the completion of 3 races on the Club Championship 2018 calendar:

  • Guy Fawkes 10
  • Even Splits 5k – the final race
  • Peco Race 1 for the 2018/19 season at Middleton Park

Race results are up, and the table is updated as below.

Guy Fawkes 10

Oh the choices, Abbey Dash or Guy Fawkes – we’ve gone for the tougher one for the club championship. There were 7 runners rewarded with high value points. For those that prefer Abbey Dash, please stay tuned for the 2019 calendar – you may be able to claim points yourself!

On the day, we welcomed Stephen Groves back into his running with a fine time considering the last time he ran for us was a while ago. He duly took the full 50 points, whilst I have seen his handicap drop as a consequence. Welcome back Stephen! David Wood and Simon Boardman round out the top 3 point scorers with excellent times.

Position Name H’cap Time Diff Time Points
1 Stephen Groves 01:45:44 27.28% 01:16:53 50
2 David Wood 01:49:35 6.71% 01:42:14 49
3 Simon Boardman 01:22:50 2.91% 01:20:26 48

Even Splits 5k series

Since March, there has been 10 5k events at the Brownlee Centre by the Lawnswood Roundabout to get your teeth stuck into! A supposedly flat course, with a 90ft climb on each of the 3 laps – you make your own mind up. We had at least 2 Harriers and 18 overall at each of the 10 events and multiple people coming back for seconds, or 8ths, making my life that much more difficult, thanks! Hope you enjoyed it – whilst it’s a shame that John Carr has been cancelled this year, this was an added bonus to the years calendar!

I’ve taken your best time, if you’ve done more than one and compared it to the handicap around race day. Yes, that’s been a bit difficult but it’ll be slicker from next year. Some excellent times meant for a close run in the middle pack of the points scorers, all behind James Corah – who’s handicap was a bit generous!

Position Name H’cap Time Diff Time Points
1 James Corah 00:30:26 18.95% 00:24:40 50
2 Jemma Mcconville-Roe 00:26:36 7.67% 00:24:34 49
3 Alan O’brien 00:19:41 6.90% 00:18:20 48

Peco Race 1 – Middleton Park

The first of our winter series Cross Country events saw 47 Harriers take part at Middleton Park beside nearly 1000 other runners. Our juniors did rather well too! There’s a lot of runners so it’s difficult to get near to the maximum 50 points, but Kevin Longmate did it! Sandra welcomed a return from injury to take 2nd place and Ben Coldwell, our fastest finisher came 3rd.

Position Name H’cap Time Diff Time Points
1 Kevin Longmate 00:37:57 13.84% 00:32:42 50
2 Sandra Warren 00:55:28 12.48% 00:48:33 49
3 Ben Coldwell 00:33:14 7.52% 00:30:44 48

That, alongside a small update to the bonuses mean Isobel Webster is now in the lead – and doesn’t look catchable now. Jonathon Young still holds 2nd, with Rowan Temple close behind. Can anyone else break into the top 3 before the end of the year with one race left?

If you believe you’ve qualified for bonuses you haven’t received, then please let me know on Facebook or email Malcolmtaylor789@hotmail.com.

The 2019 calendar is due out later today, so keep your eyes peeled.
