CC Race 5 – Guiseley Gallop 10k

Race 5 of the 2016 Club Championship saw the return of Guiseley Gallop on Easter Sunday. A slightly different course to 2015 due the recent flooding in the area. A few commented that it was “better but tougher” (I personally don’t get that reasoning!). An altogether successful run then!

19 Kirkstall Harriers took part in the event. Full results can be found here. Special mention to Adam “Noowell” Nodwell and John “Hohn” Hutchinson, making sure I was paying attention huh?. Also excellent runs by Peter Branney and Emma Clayton (both of Leeds City but close friends of the club!) in the top 10 overall.

Well done all!

Now onto the important bit, the club championship. Jill Hudson had a good one, claiming all 50 points. A third of the KH runners came within 1% of your handicap time. Well done for making me look good.

The updated table, with Ben retaining the lead but Adam Nodwell catching up, can be found here.

Provisional CC Races 3 & 4 – Spen20 and Pudsey Post Hill

A double whammy of hills (my favourite) came in the form of Races 3 & 4 in the 2016 Kirkstall Harriers Club Championships. I only have provisional results of both events so will continue to keep an eye out for the confirmation and update the results if required!

Spen20: a Pre Marathon workout or a hilly 20 mile run, what more do you want? 8 runners took on this tough course. Rose George took first place in the CC points, with Ben Coldwell with another stormer just behind to maintain his control of the Club Championship table as a whole.

Pudsey Post Hill Challenge: lets skip over my monkey-like 2nd climb video, this one was tough! 7 runners took on the 5k race that featured a near vertical ascent of Post Hill in Pudsey, with a couple of other “bumps” along the way. Rose took the full 50 points to make it 2 out of 2 in 2 weeks, catching up with Mr Coldwell. James Woodman was a close 2nd on his welcome return to running. To prove how bad my run & climb was, I came last :(. Fortunately due to the small force of Kirkstall purple I took a massive 44 points!

The provisional CC results for Kirkstall Spen20 and Pudsey Post Hill Challenge can be found here.

The latest table, with a 2 way fight for the lead, can be found here. Rose is now 4 park runs away from the lead!

Well done for everyone that has run in the past two weeks. Some awesome results! Also thanks to all the supporters that came out to cheer on all the participants, the purple army is the best!

Fancy being in a chance of winning the trophy? Next up is Guiseley Gallop 10k on Sunday 27th March, entries are still open and there will be some on the day up until 9:30am. I urge you all to do this one, not only for the CC points but for the privilege of running past the old Woolpack (Emmerdale pub). For more information see here. Don’t forget your marathon and parkrun bonuses are up for grabs too until the final race of the season in November. The full CC race calendar can be found here. Please note that Meanwood Valley Trail has been cancelled, we are on the look out for a similar race around Leeds at a similar price, any ideas please let me know.

As always, if you have any questions or queries about the results (they are provisional so subject to change) please email or find me on Facebook.

Winter Time Trial 6 of 6 – Results

We had 16 brave runners on the last winter time trial of this season, on a cold but dry night. A few other runners decided to do their own thing too. Helping ensure the runners got off on the correct time and were correctly recorded over the finish line were Alice Murray Gourlay, James Woodman and James Manthorp. As usual the bulk of the work was left to the only female! They were 3 new faces to this years series, Justin Heath, Ewan Malone and Matt Kasparek. First runner over the line with the words of “It’s the first time I have won anything” was Chris Hunt with a run time of 24.49. Second was Matt Kasparek 24.04, third Catherine Barrett 23.52 and fourth towards the front end for a change Patrick Nesden 30.33. Bringing up the rear on this occasion was Justin Heath – a recent new member in 26.24 and Sean Scanlon (not a member – yet!!) in 24.18 who must have drawn the short straw with the handicapping and setting off with Chris Glover and Ryan Owens. Fastest female was Louise O Brien with 23.17 and fastest male Paul Miller with 19.39 and overtaking 9 runners. Winners of the best 4 results from the 6 races will be announced later

Although this was the last of the winter time trials, if we have sufficient interest in the lighter nights there is a 3.1 mile section of the canal from Kirkstall to Rodley that we can use as an outbound stretch, and either jogging back another way – or if keen enough, for a negative split return? Runners can probably do their own timings on a rough handicap basis, and those out for a “stroll” can just start with whoever they want and act as pacers?
